We’re a little over three months in to 2025, and there are plenty of new design trends to consider implementing into your own home. Pinterest, however, just released a report on the number one design trend for 2025, and everyone is totally obsessed. “Pinterest has spoken, and this is going to be the number one design trend for 2025,” said TikToker @thehavenly.
The design trend in question is, of course, maximalism. “If you guessed maximalism and being bold, you are correct,” said @thehavenly. “They say specifically that people are leaning more and more towards bold forms of expression and maximalism. So, this obviously translates directly to home.”
Maximalism as an interior design trend has been taking the internet and world by storm as a rejection of minimalist interiors that can sometimes feel sterile. Maximalism, in a way, breathes life back into interior design with bold color choices, statement lighting, vintage decor and more.
After discussing Pinterest’s findings, @thehavenly gave a number of solid tips for how to incorporate maximalism into your home. And we have to admit it; they’re actually pretty good.
First, @thehavenly recommends starting off small, especially if you haven’t worked with bold colors or lots of prints and patterns before. Think of small accent pieces, like adding a colorful ottoman or piece of artwork or even a throw pillow, and then branch out from there.
“Now, if you’re a maximalism pro, we want to see pattern drenching,” said @thehavenly. “Think wallpaper, statement bed, statement curtains. I know this is definitely bold but when done right, it can look really cool.”
It’s important to remember that styling a home, as well as furnishing it, takes a lot of time, effort and intention. If you’re interested in creating a maximalist home, remember to be patient and add slowly. This will create the best styled space possible.
Maximalist Home Decor Tips
In addition to @thehavenly’s great advice for incorporating maximalism, check out a few more tips below:
-
Let a color palette be your guide: Stick to a color palette when designing your room so things look intentional. This should inform your color choices from everything from your wall color you paint to the artwork you choose to the furniture you pick.
-
Pick a strong focal point: For example, a fireplace, a large piece of art or a huge statement mirror. This will help anchor the room, bringing balance, especially with the more busy design style.
-
Don’t be afraid to mix patterns: Especially if they share colors in your color scheme! This is what prevents things from looking clashed.
