I’m an editor: These are the fall pillow covers I love most

Whenever you’re experiencing the interior design equivalent of maybe I should get bangs, it’s time to swap out your throw pillows. It’s not that the ones you’ve got are bad, exactly – you’re just bored, the season’s shifting, and something’s got to give.

As an editor living in a city where square footage is the ultimate luxury, fall throw pillows are my go-to trick when my rooms don’t feel… autumnal enough. And this year, ‘autumn’ has got a new hairdo, so to speak.

I’ve covered quite a few launches this season – Sarah Sherman Samuel for Lulu and Georgia, Crate & Barrel, Anthropologie, the list goes on. And one throughline I’ve noticed is a move away from traditional, away from cliché. Where autumn once leaned into moody jewel tones, fall 2025 trends are brightening up. The seasonality now comes through ornamentation (piping, trims that feel more formal), and texture. Think wool, fur, and an avalanche of velvet.

Ahead, 12 pillow covers that prove a seasonal reset doesn’t need to weigh down your palette (or your cushion closet).

Sometimes the perfect cushion-to-couch pairing comes from instinct – a feeling, an inclination. Other times, it’s not so simple. Whether your sofa is blue, brown, or somewhere in between, we asked the experts which color cushions actually work best. So if you are unsure of what fall throw pillows are going to work best with your sofa color, read up on the answers.
